Groupstage ready to go!
The WIC World Championship is ready to go, the groupstages of the Pro and Fun tournament have been drawn and the matches are set to be played. All teams have to play all their groupstage matches until the 22. March. All matches can be scheduled completely free within that timeframe. The top two teams of each group advance to the playoffs.

Group drawing

Pro Tournament:
16 Teams were chosen to be high seeds, those 16 teams were divided randomnly on the 8 groups, with the exception of teams from North America, those were placed in one group to avoid timezone issues within the group stage.

Fun Tournament:
All team were placed randomnly in the groups, with the exception of teams from North America, which were placed within one group to avoid timezone issues in this early stage of the tournament.

Schedule & Maps

Map & Point System:Maps:
For each match the map is chosen by the ESL, you can find the map in the match details. It is Hometown (1. Groupstage Match), Seaside (2. Groupstage Match) and Farmland (3. Groupstage Match) for the three groupstage matches. (in the called order). Both teams can agree to play a different map, they just have to clearly state it in the match details comments.


Schedule:
You have two weeks for all groupstage matches. All matches have to played until the 22. March. Please confirm a date with your opponent as soon as possible. All matches which are not confirmed until 15. March will be forced by an admin. If you have problems to agree on a date and time with your opponent, please create a match protest and an admin will assist you with the problem.

Best Role Player Rankings

We decided to add a fifth category to the best role player rakings for the players that switch roles. To determine that player all teams have to write a match statement (possible at match details) for all their matches and name the player that switches roles.

Only matches were screenshots are uploaded can be counted for the role rankings, so make sure to upload result screenshots!

Servers

We are preparing the servers with Massive and try to get them up and running as fast as possible. We will post an update on this news, as soon as they are running.

***Update***

The servers are online and they are called ESL World Championship Server 1 - 15

The password is pentagon12.

Rule Update: It is strictly forbidden to spectate games from other teams. Don't join servers that are in use by other teams, only admins are allowed to do it, that's why there are 12 Slots. If you have an unallowed spectator during your game, make a screenshot and create a Support. The team and player that spectated will be punished.

theres still the "switcher" rule? its a bit outdated. especially that most teams play double inf, its a bit useless to name a switcher, isnt it?
that means, u force a player 2 switch, even if he has all units on the field and the other one none....

be cool reach. (and remember the last cws, and how the switches happend: either one of the double roles got whipped, and he switched, or we changed the strat and asked: who has less units? k switch)

but jeah, i wont bother u with that. its just time to review the rules ;)

I just remember how other discussions about rules, etc. began and with the time its just annoying...I dont want it again.
Currently we have two nice tourneys with a lot of teams and balanced groups...cant see that the esl/admins did anything wrong, so dont discuss about rules which are known since beta. (and I remember the last cws...no comment :D )

Since it was an international Tourney, I was hoping that my Team (North America) would be playing some international clans. Not NA in the very first group stage.

no, but putting red army, ex logitech and ex faculty in the same group is not balanced.

at least they could've splitted the americans, I mean they will still have timezone difference in the playoffs so why should the groupstages be any different?

and group c was kinda lame, inferno and plan b, but it's okay now since inferno forfeited.

2. xmas cup...the us teams cried cause of the differnet timezones...nice how everything can change in two month

And who cares about the Americans, it's ESL (EUROPEAN Sports League).

Anyway it's okay know since top 2 advances, it's still a really bad seeding though.

Our clan is mostly Euro..with exception of a couple. Maybe it was unclear for our admin, until reading thoroughly of the match details.. Cause it seems that it does (placing as US based clan) effect the expected match time availability and possibly the seeding. Almost difference of night and day in some zones.. IM flexible to the ESL league players being US based ;} we don't have one this cool...

Looks like the open matches ended up being all set on the weekend..accommodating most... plus having 2 weeks to complete. Guess ya can't really do much more.

It's still an european league from the start, they have their own leagues for USA.

so if groups are not balanced, it means no easy win anymore for some "strong" teams and maybe some of them need to train now, BEFORE the playoff's... im so f***** sry for that.

i dont see a clue about this dumb discussion if you guys want to win just go for it. :)

And making it more balanced just means that more good teams reach the playoffs instead of just a few(making the tournament more entertaining).

As it is now the best team might not win it because the group stages uses a bo1 system with default maps while the playoffs uses a bo3 system instead, which is by far better.

The real truth is that the best team will win, but the 2nd best might be 8th, cause if the top 2 teams face eachother in playoffs this can happen without loser bracket. I dont know why didnt they do loser bracket though. But if you cant go through your group, its impossible to win the tourney, cause i would assume you'd lose again to your groupstage clans later. So the only thing that is worrying us is that does ESL do the same than with the x-mas cup. Put the top 4 against each other in the playoffs. Hope not.

And FotZik, you cant think that they would put you on high seed since you havent played this game in a long time. If any top 5 teams would play against the teams who played in CPL, the game would last max 10 mins. If against team from earlier tourneys 5 mins, wic is not the same anymore.

For cristalizing best role, one should charge the avg. points per minute all in all as when games only last 6 minutes one won't recieve much points... So this Best role determination ESL is going to conduct isn't really significant.

#25 Never thought they would put us as a high seed and I'm not complaining because we have to play Red Army or n!faculty, but because almost every group is a joke. And the game hasn't changed that much at all, just some minor fixes and a nerf to the choppers...

I didnt mean that the exact "game" has changed, the players have evolved etc. if you get my point :P I mean like seaside for example, year ago, tank player went only to research or beach. Never happen anymore.

no, for the winner it doesnt matter-> lb only matters for 2nd place, and 3rd place can be gained by weaker clans even WITH lb.

conclusion -> only 1st place should get stuff :D

u could even push this further, why not playing 10 times against each other? maybe they loose the first 4 games, but win the 6 following.

so, it doesnt rly matter...

the question with lb was just, that a low seed could gain on of the top 3 spots if he is lucky enough, if there is no LB (favs kicking out each other) , and with LB, he can only gain 3rd place (lowseed will have to play against high seed @LB).

Team coming from lb have to win one round more then the team from WB. If team from lb somehow manage to win match you would call that luck ?

I dont know if u are interested in other competetives scenes, but afaik in Wic u never played at high level so how the frakk u would have any idea about it ?

Dont compare to soccer, its something different :)

? you have to win 2 times anyway. if u are from WB, u already won the first game against this team or a stronger team who kicked the team into the LB.

so, if they come back, and loose, u won 2 games. thats why the LB team has to win 2 times. didnt u know? :D

but thats not the question, the question was if LB is needed in terms of who wins the cup, and, imo its not needed for the 1st place.
(needed in terms of a weak team can gain with luck the first place (luck in terms of never playing a strong team as they kick themselfes out)

the only thing is, it could be possible that a weak team somehow get into finals wo playing a strong team, but hey, they will loose in the final then (-> so, only stuff for first place :D )

and, even WITH lb, the 3rd spot COULD be gained by a weak team. no one complaining about that? obivously not... wonder why...
