WC3L Finals day 2 resume
David 'affentod' Hiltscher is reporting live from Beijing. The first half of the WC3L Finals didn't lack in excitement. We had European fans, loads of technical issues, bright lights in the sky and an important wish for a birthday present. Read all about it in the third edition of the WC3L blog.
We got of on an incredibly bad start. Due to all kinds of SNAFU involving network cables and Chinese viruses we started 4 hours late on the first day. While our IT crew was busy fixing all the issues, I spent my time reading searing insults pointed at our crew and ESL in general on the various scene websites out there. It's easy to understand the anger of European fans. Rest assured that everyone here felt exactly the same.

Once things got running, it went quite well. Particularly impressive was mousesports' performance. When Th000 and Fly100% learnt that it was Hasuobs' birthday on Tuesday, they asked him what they should give him as a present. All the now 21-year old German wanted from them was the WC3L title. And that's what they fought for.

I was particularly impressed to see two big guys sitting in the audience yesterday. It turned out they were German fans that study in Beijing and had been to quite a few ESL events when they still were in Germany. They had a lot of interesting stories of China, not the least that there's a holiday later this week called the Dragonboat festival.

That may explain a phenomenon that we encountered later that night. Looking up at the sky we saw bright lights floating in 500 to 1000 meters height. Watching them more closely, we figured out they must be kites. It was eerie and touching at the same time. It's hard to describe exactly, but it made the whole place feel so much more alien and beautiful.

Except for the hefty early morning problems, we had quite a smooth event. Some more PC problems forced us to delay the player awards until Wednesday, but at least we got all the matches through. I am optimistic for the Grand Final of these WC3L Finals. See you all tomorrow.

My guess is that the biggest fanbase is in china and that is where they will get the biggest live audience, even if it may not be the best place to do it connection-wise for the rest of the world. Europe for online supremacy, china for live audiences !_!
that's pretty gay how ngize lost twice in a row .. i was hoping wicked vs ngize in finals x.x

if they have that much technical difficulties they should just host it in europe or even korea if they really have to do it in asia :D
I dont think having a big live audience is an important reason for wc3l to have the finals in china.
I guess its just easier to host it in china since all the chinese guys dont need to get a visa and only a few players from europe have to get one. plus its probably easier for someone from europe to get a visa for china and not vice versa.
I am willing to bet the reason behind the choice of location is largely monetary. It seems there are way more WC3 sponsors in China nowadays.

I dont think any serious sponsors, wants to be in such even. Its has been the worst offline finals in the history, how a player can play on an infected computer?(Check/luci had to do it) and while they are playing because of the virus it goes to windows, or Check cant setup his own mouse because of the same reason.

More money in China, more audience, and worse event, i really cant understand it, this WC3L finals are really A FAKE results

Check or Lucifron can feel stolen ^^
