VS. Development spoilers *update*
All the measures we want to take to prevent fakeaccounts and cheaters from playing in VERSUS are on paper to be developed step by step. We would like to share our plans with you and are looking forward to your feedback. These features will be developed step by step in order to give cheaters and fakers a hard time.
Problem: Keep VERSUS easy to accessThis topic is a very tricky one. On the one hand we don't want cheater and fakers in VERSUS. On the other hand we don't want VERSUS to become harder for new players to play. Requiring gameaccounts to be entered, and then requiring proof screenshots like in the old ESL would destroy the reason VERSUS was made - to make playing on the ESL easy again.
Solution: In games that require it, we to check that their ESL Wire Anti-Cheat is running fine before starting a match in one of the WAC games on VERSUS. This will result in players either going to play knowing everything is okay or a temporary ban to contact the support to solve the problems.
But this is only one of many measures against fakers and cheaters!
Problem: Bypassing Wire Anti-CheatSolution #1: We want to automatically punish players without ESL Wire Anti-Cheat Logout to ensure the full Anti-Cheat protection for everyone on VERSUS. After the first match with no logout, players will receive a message about this problem. After the second time with no logout, the final warning will be given. If this player continues playing without ESL Wire Anti-Cheat, minus points due to missing WAC and additional tiered barrages will be given out.
Solution #2: New accounts of barraged cheaters or players, that just want to bypass their penalty, will be automatically banned from VERSUS. This will make playing in VERSUS a lot better for all fair players out there.
As soon as our very own ESL Wire Anti-Cheat detects a cheater, it will ban the player instantly and automatically from VERSUS. The same will happen to unmasked fakeaccounts, so you will be playing with fair players only. This step is planned to be finished and put online this week.
This solution is online and already banned the first players
We know there are other ways to bypass Wire right now, that we don't want to spread any wider. Development in this case is not specifically focused on VERSUS and will be topic on it's own in future. But just in case you know what we are talking about: Solutions on this topic are running and we will come back to this topic soon.
Problem: Reports do not give any feedbackSolution #1:You asked for a visible indicator if a player is barraged from VERSUS and so that your reports have an effect. This is on our list now! As long as a player is banned from VERSUS their stats will be hidden by a box saying "player is banned".
This solution is released since 23.02.2012
Solution #2: Just as much as you, we want to see trouble makers out of VERSUS as fast as possible. So players who are reported often will be banned automatically. This work will be much more efficient and faster than before. So make use of reporting and show us who is not playing within the rules!
This solution is released since 22.03.2012
Problem: Matches of cheaters keep their resultSolution: We want to treat cheaters as well as their matches in a special way, so that fair players have a clean and fun system to play in. As soon as a player is barraged for 12 penalty points for cheating their matches will be handled this way:
If the cheaters team won, the team will still be the winner, but the losing team will not lose any points.
If the cheater was in the losing team or involved in a draw, no changes will be done to the match.
If a party won with a cheater, the won points of all party members will be set to 0.
If a party lost with a cheater, no changes will be done to the match.
Additionally there will be tooltip in the matchsheet, informing you that a cheater was banned. In addition to that, you will receive an ESL message with a link to the involved match or matches.
When are all this solutions going to be online?During our biweekly development sprints we will do our best to bring those features online step by step but also as soon as possible. We will keep you up to date in our weekly Changlog news about VERSUS!
We hope this gives you a good idea of what we are doing right now. We know about the problems and we have the features all thought through. It will take some time to get rid of all problems but we are working hard on it and hope you give us some time to get everything done properly. We are looking forward to your feedback!
