Urban Terror Specific Rules

For a general overview of the ESL Rules watch this link: General ESL Rules. This Page will just cover the Urban Terror specific Rules. If you miss a specific topic, you might find it in the general ESL Rules. If the Urban Terror Specific Rules and the ESL General Rules are differently, the Urban Terror Specific Rules will be taken.

1.1 General Match Rules (All Stages)

A Season lasts 1 up to 4 Months. Teams have to play one match per week as minimum. If they cannot play a match in a week due to vacation, dead or other things please contact the Staff Team immediately. If you don't inform the staff a no-show will be added to your team sheet as default result.

Before the match starts, representatives from both teams must make sure that the opposition is ready to play. Then the match can begin. In between maps, there can be up to a 5 minute break in order to organise, tactics, etc.

If a side forfeits the match, then the other clan automatically wins. If there are any disputes during a match, please contact one of the OPs in #esl.urt-eu on Quakenet immediately. Do not continue the match until any disputes have been resolved.

1.2 Basic Stage

The ladders in the Electronic Sports League are based upon the ELO points system variant. The point’s calculation of any match is calculated from the position of a player/team in the ladder, their opponent’s position, and the result of the match. For full details, please read the FAQ.

1.2.1 Match arrangement

Each week a match consisting of the opponents with similar ELO-Rating is randomly generated.

1.2.2 Map Choice

Each team can pick their map for basic stage from the following map pool:

  • ut4_tohunga_b8 (Link: download)
  • ut4_orbital (Link: download)
  • ut4_abbey
  • ut4_casa
  • ut4_mandolin
  • ut4_prague
  • ut4_thingley
  • ut4_elgin
  • ut4_kingdom_rc6 (Link: download)
  • ut4_austria
  • ut4_turnpike
  • ut4_sanctuary
  • ut4_algiers
  • ut4_village_classic_rc4 (Link: download)
  • ut4_dust_v2 (Link: download)

Both teams must pick one map from the map pool above. A team cannot pick the same map twice during basic stage. Teams can only play each other once during basic stage.

1.2.3 Match outcome

Round wins will prevail to determine the outcome of a match on basic stage; teams will play two maps from the map pool for 20 minutes each making a total of 40 minutes.

1.3 Advanced Stage

Once Basic Stage is done, advanced stage will take place. The first 8 entries from the ladder will compete in the First Division. The remaining 8 positions will compete in the Second Division From the 17th to the 24th position will compete in the Third division.

From the 25th entry onwards, the remaining teams will not compete in this stage and are therefore excluded.

Advanced stage consists of single elimination knock-out tree based system common to every division.

The highest ranked team from each of the divisions below will play the lowest rank; the second highest ranked team will play the second lowest, this will happen until all teams are paired up.

1.3.1 Map choice

Each team can pick their map for advanced stage from the following map pool:

  • ut4_tohunga_b8 (Link: download)
  • ut4_orbital (Link: download)
  • ut4_abbey
  • ut4_casa
  • ut4_mandolin
  • ut4_prague
  • ut4_thingley
  • ut4_elgin
  • ut4_kingdom_rc6 (Link: download)
  • ut4_austria
  • ut4_turnpike
  • ut4_sanctuary
  • ut4_algiers
  • ut4_village_classic_rc4 (Link: download)
  • ut4_dust_v2 (Link: download)

1.3.2 Match outcome

Map wins will prevail to determine the outcome of a match on advanced stage; teams will play two maps from the map pool for 20 minutes each making a total of 40 minutes.

Each map works as an independent unit, and teams with the most rounds at the end of one particular map win.

If each team has won one map each, it is a draw and a third map needs to be played, the team with more rounds scored should start eliminating the following maps, followed by the team with least scored rounds until one is left:

  • ut4_abbey
  • ut4_casa
  • ut4_turnpike
  • ut4_orbital
  • ut4_austria

2. Choice of server

In case a game-server is needed for the game, the players must provide a server for the game themselves and come to an agreement on which server to use. In case no agreement can be reached, teams will play their home map in opponents’ server.

The following diagram should serve as example.

  • Team A Map – Server B
  • Team B Map – Server A

4. Substitutes and timeout

In game substitutes are not allowed. Each team is allowed two timeouts per match. Timeout called because of a technical problem concerning server or config is not counted as a timeout for the team if it proves to be valid. All players must join their teams during warm ups or timeouts. A timeout must be invoked to switch players during a match. No Spectators are allowed on the server during the match unless they are staff of the league or GTV.

5. Miscellaneous Rules

If a player leaves the server at any time, without informing the other clan, the match is to be continued unless both clans agree to wait for the player to return or a substitute to arrive. If a player gets kicked due to server related problems, then the match is to be paused until either the player returns, a substitute arrives, or a different, fully functional server is found.

A disconnect is when there are either client or mainly server problems. If this is the case, the match will be paused. If this is no longer possible, then the map is to be restarted from the time the disconnect happened remaining, with the scores carried forward. The time remaining will be rounded up to the nearest minute for the restart.

Any person or clan abusing the disconnect rule for unfair advantages will be severely punished.

Taking advantage of map bugs is not allowed in this league. If you see player(s) abusing these map bugs, you should report that person to a admin together with a demo.

The use of hacks, trainers, hex editors and anything else to give yourself an advantage over others is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught using hacks is subject to expulsion from the league.

Screenshots must be taken after every map.

Demos are also compulsory from each player. Failure to take a demo will result in a punishment in case the Staff team is requesting a demo and it's not available. Also without a demo it is difficult to take action if you have a complaint.

Respect all players and most importantly, have good sportsmanship. Any insults, racist remarks, spamming, etc, will not be tolerated. Be sportsmanlike at all times.

Spectators are not allowed except it is a Staff Member and this Staff Member is not a Member of one of the playing Clans.

Substitutes are by default not allowed.

When a game is played, the winner has to report the game and the loser confirm it as soon as possible.

6. Multiclanning Rules

Multiclanning (the process of being in more than one clan at the same time) is forbidden.

Players cannot be in two or more clans which have signed up for the league, or any other arrangement that breaks the spirit of the multiclanning rule.

If a player leaves a clan, they cannot play for that same clan again for the entire season.

A player may only change clan once in the course of a season. An exception can be made one time, if the previous clan has died.

A player cannot transfer to a clan in the same division during the course of the season.

7. Strikes & Penalty Points Rule

If by the end of the week, a scheduled match has not been played, then both clans will be given a strike. These strikes are permanent.

Once a clan has accumulated three strikes, one penalty point will be given.

For each subsequent unplayed match, another penalty point is added on.

At the end of each week, the number of penalty points they have accumulated is deducted from their overall point tally.

To clarify, a clan may have two unplayed matches throughout the course of the season with no points penalty. But any extra unplayed matches will result in points deductions.

If a match has been scheduled (or cannot be scheduled) and one side does not turn up, then the blameless clan can claim to have their strike removed. Proof of this is required to be shown to a admin.

If a clan goes below zero (0) points, then they will be removed from the league.
