The reason for this is:
"You need an european battle.net account to take part."
Should this reason no longer be valid, feel free to submit a new request. -----------------------------------

should answer your question..
only 64 players? ô_ö
That's the thing I do have a EU account....
If you dont have an EU account, you cannot play against any other EU player at all!
there is only ONE bnet server available so he must have the same as all sc2 players :)

or am i wrong? do they already seperate bnet 2.0 into continents?
sure they do, last cup there was a corean participant who was unable to perform in the cup due to his accounts key from corea
dago, SC2 Battle.net is split into 3 areas - US, Europe, Asia

Players in one area cannot play players from another (unless they have multiple bnet accounts and keys)

This will probably not change until the first expansion, see this developer chat from yesterday: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=115747
