The ESL Playercard
What is the ESL Playercard
The ESL Playercard was anncounced first on 10.01.2005. Basic informations and a an introducing into the ESL Playercard can be found at /eu/playercard/info/.
The principle of the Playercard
With the Playercard the big problem of anonymity on the internet is history. You can't register a second or multiple accounts anymore and start with a new identity because your address has to be verified. This verification works with the help of a key which is sent to you as an attachement of the Playercard by letter.
The nature of the ESL Playercard
A key is attached with the Playercard sent to you which has to be entered at the ESL Page. By doing so we assure that every player is registered only once at the ESL. If the address (whether it is a mistake or on purpose) is entered incorrectly, the letter doesn't arrive at the user's house and he won't be able to become a Trusted Player. In this case you have make a report at the support.
5 Euros are too much!?
No, it is not. This only compensates the costs which arise for us. We want to improve the quality of the ESL thanks to the ESL Playercard, it is not meant to be a source of income.
Do I have to pay again after two years?
Yes.
Is my personal data visible for everybody then?
No, continually only the data you marked as visible will be shown. And of course we won't give away your data to third parties.
How do I pay?
Via telephone, credit card, Paypal or by bank transmission.
What data has to be entered at the registration?
Name, prename, photo, address (street, postcode, city), date of birth.
I don't have an ID card yet, what to do then?
Teens under the age of 16 leave this box empty and can continue ordering their Playercard as everybody else.
Is a passport enough for T3?
Yes, the copy of a passport is enough for Trust Level 3.
Can I also give you the address of a post office box?
No, only normal postal addresses.
What about other countries?
The Playercard is available within Europe. Unfortunately not elsewhere.
Will there be some special "Trusted Only Cups" or Leagues?
Yes, basically because the Playercard allows contests like "21+ only" or regional cups.
Are Game Admins able to see my personal data?
No, only the inspection designated workers of Turtle Entertainment are able to see this kind of information.
Why isn't there a verification by letter but without Playercard so we can save money?
The costs of the printing are a very small part of the arrangement fee. But by doing so the players get an official Playercard which looks good in your pocket as well.
But there will still be fakers and cheaters!
Yes, but there is also no completely safe system. With the implementation of the ESL Playercard however the inhibition level will be raised enormenously and fakers have to take way higher risks than they would have to if we would offer an online-only registration. By no later than sending in a copy of your ID card everybody should realize that abuse can have legal consequences.
What happens if I move or my data change?
A change of the address can be done by ordering a new Playercard (which means you have to pay the 5€ fee again) or via support. In this case please write us your new address via support and add a photo of your ID card. If you don't have an ID card, please use some other official papers you data is written down on.
Am I able to change my nickname as "Trusted Player"?
Yes.
Am I able to change my photo as "Trusted Player"?
Yes.
Are there some specific criteria for the photo?
Yes, like the photo on your ID card it has to show the front of your face completly without any items on it. The picture has to be six months old or newer.
Is the Playercard available for persons 16+ only?
No, also users younger than sixteen are allowed to order a Playercard.
Why is the Playercard limited to 2 years?
Nearly every official paper is limited to some time, we decided to put the limit to two years. Two years are a very long period of time for an online community where a lot can happen. Because of that he has to register one more time.
What does the Playercard look like?
The ESL Playercard is like any other EC card in weight and size. Aside the name, city and ESL ID there is also a playerphoto on the card. On the backside you can find a barcode you can use to register when you visit an event.
Which Trustlevels are available?
Trust Level 1: Basic registration, verification via letter
Trust Level 2: Not available at EU
Trust Level 3: Send in a copy of your ID card/passport as well as the signed schedule for confirmation of the rules
Trust Level 4: Not available at EU
What options do I gain as "Trusted Player"?
At first you get access to special contests and leagues as well as a marking that identifies you as a "trustworthy player" in your playersheet. You will also have some options like "search only for trusted players" when searching for opponents.
Are there "Trusted Teams" too?
Yes, if every(!) member of a team is "Trusted Player", the team automatically will be set to "Trusted Team".
How much time does the registration take?
The registration itself only takes some minutes. But the printing and delivery will need some time, so small delays are possible. Of course we try to keep them on a minimum, but checking your data carefully is very important to us.
