Match Guide
Since players that are new to the ESL seem to have problems with how matches work and what they have to do we decided to write a short guide.

Match Guide

It doesn't matter much wether you have a match in a ladder, a cup or a league, since the basic steps are the same across matches of any competition type (For example the Checkin system does only exist in cups, so the step can be ignored in non-cup matches). In the case of team competitions it is important that only people with certain team permissions (like (Co-)Leaders) can do some of the steps (like entering the Matchsetup) Here the guide for a cup match:

Signup The first step is joining a cup. Just follow the respective link in the cup news or go to the cup page and click on the "Signup" tab to get there. There are various requirements like an entered gameaccount, a minimum amount of players in the team (in team competitions),... - in order to join you have to fulfil all of them. After you signed up an admin will check your signup and either approve or reject it - you will get an email notification in both cases. Signup
Checkin Some cups make use of the Checkin system. The idea behind the Checkin system is to avoid defwins in the first round. In a short period of time some minutes before the cup is due players have to confirm that they want to participate in the cup - just hit the Checkin button to check in. If you miss the Checkin or have not signed up for the cup yet you get the chance to sign up again after the check in phase is over and before the cup starts (As long as there are still free slots left). You do not have to confirm your participation in that case though. Checkin
Tournament Tree Once the cup is seeded you can see the pairing on the tournament tree page. Click on the little "vs" at each paring to get to the respective match page. Tournament Tree
Your Match There are a few ways to get to your match. An easy way is to hove your mouse over the "Matches" button on the bottom right of the ESL Interface. There you can see your pending matches and some information to each of them. Click on the joystick to get to the match page, click on the tool icon to get to the match setup and click anywhere else on the match to open the match chat. Your Match
Match Page - before the match On the match page you can see various details like the two players/teams or the match date. Use match comments or the match chat to communicate with your opponent. You may of course use various other means of communication to do that, but at least official statements / agreements have to be written in one of the official communication channels (match comments, match chat, protest tickets,...). Usually a match starts with the status "Challenge". Before the match can start your opponent and you have to enter their home map and change/confirm match details. Click on "Matchsetup" to do so. Match Page - before the match
Matchsetup - before the match In the Matchsetup you can change the match date (if changing the date is possible at all), enter your home map, change the decider map and do various other things. When both players/teams have entered the match details the match status changes to "Open" and you can start actually playing it. Matchsetup - before the match
Matchsetup - after the match Once the match is over open the Matchsetup page of your match again to enter the results and rate your opponent. When both players/teams have done that the match status changes to "Closed". Matchsetup - after the match
Match Page - after the match When the match is set to closed you can see the results and the winner of the match on the match page. Match Page - after the match
Matchmedia Do not forget to upload the matchmedia (One screenshot of the statistics after the match and 1 replay per played map). The Replays should be uploaded togeter in one zip-file, but the screenshots should be uploaded separately. Just click on the respective link to get to the matchmedia upload page. You can also use ESL Wire to upload the matchmedia. Matchmedia

Awesome work.

Now it's just a matter of making sure there's a link to the guide on new tournament pages in huge blinking, burning and exploding red letters or something, heh.
